Naples Artist Michael Beard Explores Origins of Life in New Painting Series

"Our universe is dotted with over 100 billion galaxies, and each one contains roughly 100 billion stars". (Simon Singh, Big Bang) After visiting the Everglades and observing the night sky with minimal light pollution, I wondered how scientists could possibly know a star was a million light years away.

In the process of learning about "red shifting", and measuring the brightness of stars to determine how far away they are, I started getting ideas to incorporate into my latest paintings. When observing things, the more questions we ask the more our imagination is stimulated. Another important factor is taking the time to observe very closely. When I do, I see micro worlds in everything around me. I have started exploring some of these related themes in my latest painting series "Origins".
